Nissan & Honda – two major automotive brands using new social media Vine & Instagram in promoting their products.
Nissan is using Vine to promote their new car- Versa Note in a 6 seconds video. According to Erich Marx, director of social media and interactive marketing for Nissan U.S.A. stated that the new social- media are the best platform for advertising. He said that “Frankly, I think it’s a bigger challenge making 15 seconds of watchable content than six seconds of compelling content”. Furthermore as we all know, Vine allows only six seconds video content.

In that video, we can observe their creativity in the car’s new advertising campaign. Moreover, the Vine itself is mobile and everyone has it on their smart phones which make it interactive and accessible.
Honda also has been using Vine in conjunction of their US summer event – a clearance event which they have tweeted with a hash tag #wantnewcar. On that particular day, the hash tag received 6,895 Twitter mentions from 5, 617 users with 14.8 million estimated Twitter impressions. The word “Honda” received an estimated 247 million impressions. This is a different approach made by Honda to reward their loyal customers.
In conclusion, the social media have their own specialities and it depends on how creative the organizations can fully make use of the media. As a public relations practitioner, do you think that these social media could help your organization to reach the target audience or the creativity as one of the approaches needed?

hi assalamualaikum and good evening to all
ReplyDeleteto answer to your question gary, i do believe that social media can influence many people. but not everyone can manage it well and pull it off. like u mentioned before, it depends on the creativity and depends on your product and your approach; does it go well or its going to the opposite direction. making sure that the approach, the target audience and the product itself is moving one way rather than moving in several path. due to this, it can confuse the customers. and also the tactics used is also important. as for honda, creating a hash tag is a bravo job!
I recently downloaded the Vine app on my phone and I have been stuck to the screen for the past 1.5 hours straight. But yes, answering your question Gary, its a definite yes! In the current day and age, social media most definitely can reach an organizations target publics or audience. Even though its vital information or issue management, it can all be done on social media! And along with social media is the hashtag. Currently used in many kinds of ways, hashtags are also a growing trend. Any organization will surely have one or a few hashtags. Well this is what spreads their influence and creates awareness.
